As the world continues to learn how to live with COVID-19, businesses are utilizing as many tools as they can to protect against the disease. But in-house janitorial teams are stressed and may be unable to handle the increased demand for cleaning services the pandemic has created. With each new variant, businesses and facilities have been scrambling to clean, sanitize, and disinfect.
Steam cleaning is a simple tool that can help improve the health and safety of your business. It is environmentally friendly, effective, safe, and easy to schedule with your City Wide Facility Solutions Manager (FSM). COVID-19 isn’t the only virus that steam cleaning removes; it can help to prevent the spread of a wide range of viruses and bacteria as well as mold and mildew in your facility. Below we share the ways in which steam cleaning can improve the health and safety of your business.
Evidence of steam cleaning’s benefits
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDD) and other government authorities have deemed steam cleaning as one of the strongest disinfectants against COVID-19, bacteria, and other viruses. Steam cleaning is an intense heat treatment that kills viruses on furnishing such as:
- Carpets
- Curtains
- Upholstery
- Countertops
- Hard floors
- Walls
- Furniture
- Restrooms
- Trash cans
- Door knobs
- Touch points
- Elevators
- Railings
- Many others
Steam cleaning is versatile and can be used to sterilize and disinfect nearly every surface in your facility. In addition to disinfecting for COVID-19, steam cleaning will neutralize harmful bacteria, clear and prevent the formation of mold and mildew, and reduce the amount of allergens in your facility. Steam cleaning has been proven to do the following:
- Kill 99.99% of bacteria
- Prevent mold and mildew growth
- Eliminate dust mites
- Remove stains, odors, grease, and bacteria
- Neutralize COVID-19 on surfaces
As a manager or owner, you have enough on your plate during a pandemic to have to worry about scheduling cleaning and disinfecting services. City Wide will be your partner in the fight against germs and viruses in your business.
Steam cleaning makes chemicals optional
Steam cleaning uses heated water to clean and disinfect surfaces. Some facilities need to refrain from using chemicals in their deep cleaning procedures because of the sensitive nature of their business or because they employ people who have a sensitivity to chemicals. This is why steam cleaning is such a beneficial tool. Not only is it proven effective, it is safe for most building environments and people. And, because it does not use chemicals, it is also environmentally friendly.
Electrostatic disinfecting vs steam cleaning
Another beneficial tool in the fight against COVID-19 and other viruses in your facility is electrostatic disinfection using an electrostatic sprayer. An electrostatic sprayer emits an electrically charged micron particle sized disinfectant chemical mist onto surfaces and objects to thoroughly clean and disinfect all sides and surfaces of the object. The positively-charged cleaning chemicals attach to the negatively-charged surfaces providing complete deep cleaning and disinfecting.
While the chemicals used in electrostatic disinfecting are safe, they may not be suitable for all environments. Steam cleaning can replace electrostatic disinfecting in these environments. But steam cleaning is not positively-charged, so it will not adhere as completely to surfaces as the positively-charged chemicals. This only means that the steam needs to be applied to all sides and surfaces in order to disinfect them.
